Native Plant Garden at the Santa Rita Creek Park

It started with a patch of rough ground...

The native plant garden at the park is a joint effort between our group, the community and Return of the Natives. We strive to bring people together to better their community and learn how to use native drought tolerant plants in their own yards to conserve water.

Just a patch of grass in 2011

This is what the area looked like to begin with. This patch of ground is located across the creek from the Santa Rita Creek Park. Lots of work to be done!

Beginnings of the garden

Four hours later we have the new native plants in the ground. This could not have been possible without the help of all the volunteers and Return of the Natives. Thanks everyone!

Beginning of phase two...

Picture
Here we are hard at work getting rid of the weeks and top layer of grass. Next comes weed cloth and  over 70 plants!

Phase two complete!

In this picture you can see the blue flags which are the new native plants. The plants to the right are the ones from last year that are thriving and doing great.
